We are locally-owned and operated. Our professional tutors are certified teachers and subject experts with experience in grades K-12, reading, math, science, languages, and special education. We personally match each student with a tutor whose expertise will serve the child’s specific needs. Our tutors are passionate about their students’ success!
We teach public, private, and home school students in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Suffolk, Portsmouth & Elizabeth City, NC.
Our Learning Environment
We tutor students from kindergarten through 12th grade, in all subjects, and we do it in your home (or if you prefer, the local library). We also tutor some college students and adults. Our tutoring is always one-on-one!
We use a TEAM approach to tutoring. The members of the team are:
the parent(s) or grandparent(s)
the classroom teacher
Working together, our teams consistently obtain amazing results!
Trust the RIGHT Tutors!
The right tutor can be a life saver for a student with an academic problem, or for those needing relief from school stress. Conversely, the wrong approach can be expensive and you may not get the desired results – and there may only be a small window of time for parents to get it right!
Let Tutor A Team help guide your child through their school year to attain the grades, skillset and confidence to move forwards.
Award Winning Tutoring Services
There’s a reason we keep winning awards:
the Virginian-Pilot’s Best of Chesapeake for eight straight years!
Quite simply, we have offered the very best in-home tutoring in Tidewater since 2010. We tutor students in all grades and for all subjects in Southeastern Virginia (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Portsmouth) and Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

“The Tutor A Team program really helped my son!
Mike was great. My son is graduating with honors today!”
“I wanted to give you an update on how Lisa has been doing. In short, fantastic!
She made it through the first half of her freshman year with stellar colors: English with an A- and Geometry with a B. She went in for help when she needed it and earned these grades with hard work that she turned in on time. She barely passed her math SOL but then rocked her final, getting one of the highest grades.
Her overall GPA is a 3.5, and she told me she’s not happy with it and wants to bring it up. I am so happy – she is in a much better place than she was last year, finally owning her achievements as well as her mistakes and fixing them.
“The school year ended on a high note – all As and one B for 4th quarter, all SOLs passed. We are well beyond where I had hoped to be by now. Our daughter got a 488 on her math SOL. She also got an 86/B on her math final!
She’s honestly starting to really understand the cause and effect of her behavior and realizing some choices are stopping her from doing what she really wants to do. You are wonderful! I am so thankful you ended up as our Tutor A Team tutor. You have made a great impact on our lives!”
“We highly recommend Tutor A Team! They are tutoring our son. We have used them for both trigonometry and chemistry. Since we hired the tutor, our son’s grades have increased significantly. Mr. Waldman runs his company very professionally. He comes to your home for an initial interview to gather information about your needs and the best tutor fit. I never have to awkwardly exchange money with the tutors because he brokers all payments. He has quality tutors with a broad range of expertise. Both tutors that we have worked with have been very dedicated, responsive, prompt, and communicate with our son’s teachers regularly. I wish Angie’s List would let me give them an A+! We have recommended Tutor A Team to friends and will continue to use them for the remainder of the school year.”
“I want to thank you and the tutor that you assigned to my daughter. This has been a great success. When Mary started with Mrs. Owens, she had three E’s and a B. Mary was in her fourth week of a nine week quarter. Mary brought home her report card after only meeting with her wonderful tutor twice a week for two hours. I was not expecting to see three C’s and one D. I cannot thank you enough for the encouragement, great quality, and wonderful tutor that you have sent my family. When I say Mrs. Owens is a part of my family, I sincerely mean it. Again, thank you so much.”
“Thank you, Jim, for helping my grandson achieve to his potential. I look forward to your assistance in the upcoming year, both for him and his sister. You have relieved so much stress in our home.”

In March and May, students all over Hampton Roads will spend a long Saturday morning hunched over a desk, wiping sweaty palms nervously on their jeans, brows furrowed as they bubble in responses to the questions that will determine their futures. Okay, maybe not their entire futures, but at least their college options. Ah, SAT testing season. If...
Many a mother has sighed at the sight of an overflowing, messy backpack. Pens, papers, red ink everywhere on our kitchen counters. We’re accustomed to seeing piles of graded papers make their way home often. While we don’t like the mess, at least this time-tested process afforded us the opportunity to review our kids’ work, discuss areas for...
