our method
How it worksWe firmly believe in working one-on-one, directly with the student, with the tutor looking at the student “eye to eye.” This method has proven to be the single most effective approach for tutoring. Ask your teacher friends! Better yet, ask our clients!
We continue to tutor students across Hampton Roads while schools are closed. Our tutors are certified professionals, and our students are Zooming instruction with great success!
If you are worried about your child’s academic progress due to lack of school instruction, please reach out today. We can help your child stay on track in fundamental reading and math skills, as well as in their preparation for next-level courses.
“I should have called you sooner!”
Will you be one of them?
Unfortunately, parents wait too long to secure the help their student may need for the next term. This results in “catch up” that is not good for the student or the parents.
Your Location,
Your Schedule
Tutor A Team schedules tutoring sessions at a time that is convenient to the busy parents and students: after school, weekends, and over the summer. Let us know what works for you, and we will make it happen!
Any and All
Subjects
We will provide tutors for virtually any subject. This includes coursework specifically for learning disabled or gifted students, SOL remediation and test prep, as well as pre-college prep, SAT/ACT test prep, writing college application essays, prep for ASVAB testing, and tutoring for college students and adults.
In fact, we once had a family call us seeking a tutor to help them learn American Sign Language so they could communicate with their deaf grandson. After they worked with one of our specialists, we were happy to hear of their Skype sessions, successfully chatting away with their grandson!
We will do whatever it takes to find the tutor who will help you or your child be successful.
Your Child’s
Curriculum
Your child becomes the focus of the curriculum for each session, and the work is driven by the student’s immediate needs in the course. We do not force our standardized curriculum on you.
In tutoring centers, or in small-group sessions, the work tends to be generalized in an attempt to meet the needs of the whole group. Instead, we use the student’s own homework or area of study as the initial basis for the session. We find that students are most stressed about the work they don’t understand right now, the material they need to learn for the next test.
We help take the pressure off the student and give them immediate victories to build motivation and self-confidence.
The Perfect
Tutor
Your tutor is a critical member of your child’s team. Tutor A Team puts a special emphasis on providing you with the right person, someone whose experience and skills, along with his or her personality, is a good fit for your child. Your tutor will obviously know the subject matter, and will also have a personality that conveys empathy and the ability to communicate with enthusiasm and passion.
Each tutor is individually selected only after we have had an interview with parent and student present. If you are interested in becoming a Tutor A Team tutor, let us know!
The Team
Approach
Working as a team is the best way to accomplish everyone’s goal: success for the student. Most teachers are “cheerleaders” for our program and gladly collaborate with our tutors.
No High Pressure Contracts
Contracts can put undue pressure upon the student and/or parent. Tutor A Team requires no contract! We offer instead a Letter of Understanding that spells out the terms under which the parent, tutor and company develop the award winning process.
Having no financial contract removes the parents’ concern about the cost of tutoring and allows for a more relaxed, results-oriented learning environment that can be terminated at any time without any financial penalty.
let’s talk about
The Cost
Tutor A Team asks the parent to pay for the tutoring one month in advance. No long term financial contracts are required. Payments can be made by cash, check, or money order. You pay for only completed tutoring hours!
Payments are made to Tutor A Team via a monthly invoice and not to the individual tutor, so parents and students do not have to make awkward transactions when the tutor is in your home and ready to work with your child.
The bottom line is this: our program works!
